Everyone is looking for the key to a perfect relationship; the only problem is there isn't one specific thing that keeps it alive.

A relationship is just about the only thing in the world that is both completely simple and totally complicated. It’s all about making one another happy. Period. The only problem is some people paint love and relationships to be this grand mystery, when in actuality they’re leaving out some important details.

Five Details People Leave Out

  • There will and should be arguing or disagreeing on occasion.
  • Both parties will take one another for granted at times.
  • At some point someone in the relationship will get bored.
  • Happily ever after is only a fairy tale.
  • Don’t try to change the other person, let them choose the change.

Most people don’t mention that a typical relationship is about decision making and involves hard work. It takes two to enter and exit a relationship, two to keep the relationship afloat and two to ruin or wreck a relationship. Love itself is a choice, the choice of whether someone wants to spend their life with the person who makes them happy most of the time. Most of the time is the key phrase, since no one is always happy and people don't always get along. Relationships, whether brand new or fifty years old, take work on both sides and commitment.

The best thing people can do is listen and read about others who have been there before them. There are at least ten habits that can keep a relationship strong and going through tough times.

Ten Habits That Will Keep a Relationship Strong:

  • Keep expectations low
  • Talk every day about something important
  • Arrange one evening for one another, no one else.
  • Make it a habit to touch one another, nothing huge, just simple touches
  • Have a code, so that when things are going wrong the significant other knows when to help support the other.
  • Surprise one another, do something unexpected occasionally
  • When fighting, fight fair and out of public, leave past arguments in the past
  • Be silly with one another
  • Take time to be childish on occasion
  • When saying "I love you" – mean it

There are so many ways to keep a relationship healthy, so many things people will or won’t say to help young or new couples survive. But, perhaps the most important piece of advice that can be given is just take time to listen to one another, have fun and offer support whenever it is needed.

Tough times pass, and often times they can strengthen the relationship and bring a couple closer together. The key is to feel free to be a little silly, and have a lot of fun!
